Update to Update

Herring Bone Coat - Finished, but not happy with the hem; it was crooked when I sewed the lining and coat together so the wool is sagging; have to undo all that and re-pin.

Christmas Stocking - One done; second one on the needles. This one is going well, too.

NEW PROJECT!!!!!Shawl for the Wedding - I found a wonderful beach-inspired shawl to make and wear at Sara's wedding next year. The yarn I found is a silk/sea cell (Kelp) mix; no wool in this; it's going to be way too hot for any type of wool in this shawl. Order the yarn last week; awaiting the delivery of it -maybe today, but probably tomorrow.

Jumper - Fabric still sitting in the Mood bag.

Slacks - Still waiting to be sewn.

Exercise - Continuing; My left foot gave me some problems last week but it seems to be ok now. I did do strength training last week, but nothing that would have any weight put on my foot. However, I'm going to do elliptical and weights today - just to be safe!

Riding - Rode Smash on Saturday and a lesson on Sunday; the more I ride her, the better I am at getting balanced with her big stride. And a milestone! Actually got her to canter without bucking me off or totally ignorming me! See? I told you it would get better.

Big Event on Sunday

Yesterday, Sara and I were given different horses to ride. The reason? Sara is planning on riding Smash in a September eventing show; I wanted to then ride Smash in two dressage tests only. I had ridden Smash a few times, the first time being a total disaster. She totally shut down on me, and that, people, was the end of the lesson. The next time I rode her, it was only for about 2 minutes after our lesson. Sara wanted me to feel the power of the horse, and power there is. So, yesterday, I rode Smash the entire lesson, and Sara rode Cathy's horse, Rizzo. Sara had never ridden Rizzo before, nor had anyone except for Cathy. It is her horse, you know.

So, we start the lesson with the normal walk, then trot. I worked on not falling off, learning a new rhythm for posting since Smash's stride is so much bigger than Bella's. Getting that perfected took about the entire lesson. Sara spent her lesson figuring out Rizzo and how her brain worked. A feat, for sure. Then, Cathy says to canter. What? On this huge horse with a huge stride? Are you nuts? I had earlier told Sara I wasn't sure if I wanted to canter with Smash. But, I sucked it up and did it anyway. That horse has a great canter! Very smooth and not as chunky as Bella's.

We both had an exciting and interesting lesson; we both learned how to ride completely different horses than we usually ride. Sara has ridden Smash a lot and has done a great deal of training with that horse. She did all the hard work, I got on and rode! I certainly like that arrangement.

So, we have decided that it is very possible for me to ride Smash in two dressage tests after Sara has completed the eventing portion of the show. Of course, we will have to let the farm know that we are riding the same horse so they don't schedule Sara's dressage/jumping/XC jumping at the same time that I want to ride the dressage tests.

Cathy said that if I am going to continue to ride Smash, now I have to learn to jump her. Again, What???? Seriously???? I do know that I am my own worst enemy, and once I get over the jitters, I'm ok.

Sara and Cathy came up with a traininig schedule that Sara would ride Smash next week, I ride Bella (I do have a dressage show coming up); then on alternate weeks, she will ride Rizzo and I will ride Smash.

I'm very excited about this new adventure with Smash. I was almost petrified of her; one; she is very big; two; she is very strong; three; I didn't have confidence in myself to ride (this is a very bad thing to do to oneself). I fooled everyone and rode Smash well.

Onward and upward, apparently.

Feeling better from the cold I had since Wednesday. The last time I exercised was Wednesday morning, when I felt ok enough to run, but I went downhill fast. Stayed home on Thursday, but went back to work on Friday. The only exercise I have done is the riding. Today I have to get back into the swing of things. I'll probably do some running/weight work so as not to overdo anything. Sure. That's the ticket.

List of My Projects Either In Progress or Waiting to Be Started and then Left In Progress for a Very Long Time

I've made a list of projects: (either in progress, not yet started, to be frogged and ones that are faint images far, far away)

1. Penny Straker - Galway Sweater, Back finished, working on first sleeve (still.
2. Ohio Knitting Mills - Father Knows Best Cardigan, Back finished, Left front finished; right front in progress (this is a very plain vanilla sweater, so it goes quickly) Best to knit while watching the TV. No pattern to follow (really), so no worries that the pattern goes awry.
3. Kit of 6 Mittens (shows the seasons of the year; From Knit Picks)- Yarn has been rolled into balls; Patterns have been photocopied; All I have to do is start knitting
4. I have fabric that I bought to make a jacket that has African-type designs, including three leopard panels and a panel with a variety of animals on it. I have the pattern, but the challenging part is piecing all of these panels together to make it all flow. So far, I have cut several strips of fabric to add to the leopard panels, but nothing sewn. I have done a lot of creative thinking on this so far, which is the hardest part of the entire project. Ha!
5. Cardigan with Dancing Ladies on it. I've started this project several times, and every time the design does not work out. I've tried following the pattern from right to left, which works on the right side, then left to right on the wrong side, and it does not work. I've started in different parts of the design, but still is not looking right. This project is getting very close to being frogged.
6. When (not If and I'm being optimistic here) I finish the Penny Straker cardigan, I want to make another one.

I have a quote in my sewing room: It's a long way from creation to completion.

Ain't that the truth?

Since I was not able to exercise for two days, my body is revolting. Well, not revolting in the sense it's disgusting (but that too), but in the sense that it is craving those endorphins. I'm sure I'll feel better, too, once I come back from the gym. Cardio sounds like a plan today, but it will have to be on the TM. I went out earlier to the post office, and it is cold out there!

Another thing I haven't done in awhile (because of the rain last week) is riding. The forecast doesn't look to wonderful for this Sunday, either.

Yarn Crawl Tomorrow!

OK. I don't really need any more yarn, but it's an excuse to be with friends and have a nice day together. However.......

As you know, I was commissioned to knit a baby blanket; the pattern was great if I used only two colors as required by the pattern; I wanted to use all "baby" colors, and attempted to do each repeat in a different color. Unfortunately, only the original blue and white looked really pretty. I would have continued in just those colors, but my client wanted all pastel colors in the blanket. Looks as if I'm going to have to go to a varigated yarn that has the pastels in it, and I will have to use another pattern. Drat! But, to paraphrase those Project Runway contestants, I can't send anything to a client that I don't like. I must be true to myself as a knitter!

Riding lesson on Sunday; probably more flat work as I need that just as much as jumping. Next Saturday, the 23rd, we will be going XC schooling in preparation for the show on October 31. Sara, Sallie and I are going together for the show and XC schooling. It will be nice to have other people come with me this time.

Ran on the TM yesterday, and wore myself out! I'm still tired, but since I won't be doing any exercise until Sunday, I'm debating with myself about going to the gym today and at least getting my heart rate up today. Definitely not in the mood.

Status: Finally on the last few rounds of the first mitten for Cathy. Then, I do the thumb and then get to start the second mitten. It's a good thing I started this project back in June; it's October now and the first mitten is not even done!

Let's See....

So, the end of this day can't some soon enough even though I will be leaving around 3:30 to catch the first train out of DC, not to be confused with the "special" MARC train at 2:00. 2:00???? Who can leave at 2:00???? Anyway, if I can catch the 4:13, it will be a good thing. It's the only other express train other than the 5:51, which has been canceled because of the "special" 2:00 train. Go,MARC train!

My boss asked me to send out some fund raising letters for a charity for him today. The ones that had addresses are in the mail, so to speak; actually in my "out" box, which is "in the mail" as far as I'm concerned. The others I have to email or call and ask for mailing addresses, preferably home addresses. Ugh! I don't really like doing this, but that's why I get the big bucks, right? Well....

I plan on going to the gym, doing some cardio, and weight/strength training. Since I took off from exercising yesterday, I have to go today.

Tomorrow a.m. is Wimbledon Ladies' Final Match. I really like to watch the men's finals, but that is on Sunday and interferes with my riding lesson. I will put on Mr. DVR to record the match so I can watch it when I get home. If it is a long match, it will still be going by the time I get home at noon-ish.

Dave is shooting a wedding tomorrow afternoon/evening, so my plan is to get some patterns(one is my Halloween costume for the October Halloween horse show at Talbot Run) cut out. I do have to wash/pre-shrink some fabric before it gets cut, so that should go into the wash either tonight or tomorrow a.m. Then, I can cut out that pattern (a dress). I said this is a plan. The back-up plan could be to do absolutely nothing!

Weekend Update!

Thursday was my birthday, so instead of taking off on Thursday and coming back on Friday, I took off Friday for a 3-day weekend. I did have a dental appointment for a check-up, which took about 5 seconds, then I was gone. Dave and I went to the Pho place and had pho for lunch. We had one spring roll each and a giant pho. I didn't eat it all, had it packaged up, then went and got some TCBY for dessert. A very low-key birthday celebration.

Drat! I just deleted!! d9*(&$()_)#$*.

So, Saturday Sara took me out to lunch and a movie. We saw, "Killers", which was cutesy and funny. Apparently, Sara and I were the only ones who actually had a sense of humor about it all. Kind of dark humor.

Sunday was our riding lesson - a flat lesson - no jumping. We worked very hard at getting ourselves balanced, doing serpentines with no stirrups, 20-meter circles, 15-meter circles, which are hard to calculate. I can't tell if I'm at 15 meters, 12 meters, or what. I go by what my coach says, then take it from there!

We went out to dinner with Dave's parents for their birthday celebrations to their favorite Greek restaurant. Well, we got ther 15 minutes early, and you would have thought the world was coming to an end. If there are people there, they complain it's too loud; we were the only ones in the room they likedbut apparently, it was too quiet. All of us except Sara got the lamb shank(s), but we only had one shank each and lots of orzo. I ate the lamb and part of the orzo, but with the salad and -oh! I forgot! some bread and oil - it was too much. I had a spinach salad beforehand and should have stopped there, but no, I had to go for the dessert! What a mistake! I was so stuffed! . Sara ordered the spanakopita (spinach layered with phylo dough and cheese) and a side salad. She had the yogurt with honey and nuts for dessert, and decided she shouldn't have ordered a dessert, either. Fortunately, today we have a better handle in the food department.

Today is run on the TM day to get rid of all that very rich food I had last night. Finished my dress and wore it to work. I keep amazing people with the fact that I'm actually wearing dresses/skirts to work these days. Just needed a change of pace; have another pattern and bought some more fabric yesterday. I'm on a roll!

Gee, Switching Up Exercise Really Works

This week I've continued to rev up my exercise especially in the running department. More calories burned and I'm still breathing. What a revelation. I've proven to myself that I can go faster. I was kind of in denial about it all and was letting "fate" take its course.

If only I could sleep at night. All I do is wake up from being hot (even with the fan), then I'm cold. Makes for not good sleeping. No wonder I'm always falling asleep at 8:00 at night.

I decided to pull out a fisherman's sweater I've been working on since 2007. I found the receipt the other, and I'm amazed I haven't finished it. I've made 4 pairs of mittens, 3 or 4 sweaters, but I'm still staring at this sweater. I made a vow to finish it before I do anything else - good luck with that! All I have to do is finish the sleeves, which I'm knitting at the same time. If I weren't doing that, I would really have a bad case of not wanting to finish it. And then sew the thing together and knit the collar. Bam! I'm done. Easier said than done as this pattern is somewhat complicated and every single row has cables, knit through back loop, or something outrageous. But, I'll get it done so I can wear it next winter.

The grey sweater I started is a bust right now, too. It's knit in the round and somehow the stitches got twisted so I had to rip out 17 rows of knitting. I started again, cast on those 229 stitches, and AGAIN, the stitches got twisted. I must not be getting them pointing in the same direction. Anyway, it's basically sitting in the corner because I'm so mad at it. Well, not the sweater because I ripped it out, but the yarn, directions, and needles are being punished.

Dave might go to New York next week for another bank conference. Yay! The only bad thing is I have to get home to take Romeo out because he'll be sitting around all day by himself. It's a 50/50 blessing.

Here's hoping the train is on time; we have lights and air conditioning. Always an adventure with Mr. MARC.

It's Tuesday and the last AI competition night. Lee and Crystal are the final two, and it will be most interesting to see how the voting has gone tomorrow night. Dave vows to vote the entire two hours tonight to vote for Lee as he does not like Crystal.

I'm sure AI will do something for Simon as it is HIS last two nights on AI as a judge. The man is making millions of dollars to do this. Just a comment.

Forced myself to go to the gym.

Gym report:

10 minutes walking on TM

upright rows
tricep press
shoulder roll
dumbbell press
crunches with legs on bench at 45 degree angle
metronone
reverse crunches
superman
squats
inside thighs
outside thighs
waist twists holding 7.5 pound weights
plank
front thigh quad strengthener

I believe my muscles will let me know tomorrow they did not appreciate this workout today.

End of Week One Back From Vacation

Well, the work week is almost over (5:00 p.m. tonight), and I'm surprised it went by so fast. I did leave the office early on Monday afternoon because I could not keep my eyes open because I got home so late.

Today I have my annual review. Something everybody loves to go through. A co-worker sent me an article about annual reviews, which, in essence, said these reviews are worthless, and only stress out all individuals concerned. I concur. With all the cut-backs this firm is having, it will be a minor miracle if we get any increase at all - if we do - 2% - maybe?

Dave is going to a 20-year Hubble Space Telescope reunion today at Goddard. Since he will be late, Sara is picking me up at the Dorsey Station tonight. Here's crossing fingers and toes that the blankety-blank train is on time tonight. It's a Friday, of course, there will be something to go wrong.

Sara runs in a mud run tomorrow in Gaithersburg, so we are going to go and cheer her on. Afterwards, Dave is attending an event with MetLife as the official photographer. So, we can't dawdle too long at the run.

Sunday I have a riding lesson, then off to the Sheep & Wool Festival. I'm taking several knitting patterns with me so I can see if I can find the wool to make said patterns. Of course, there will be plenty of wool, it's just that I have to the THE wool that calls out to me. Oh, I have to take my almost-finished sweater so I can get THE buttons for it. It's never ending, you know.

I have so many knitting/sewing projects, the list would be several pages long. However, I have made a commitment to finish the second mitten of the latest pair, block them and another pair of mittens, and block a sweater.

The temp today is going to be warm, so I'm thinking about going outside and run. The only problem is my leg still isn't right. Not sure if I should go to the doctor about it. I hate going to the doctor no matter what the problem. I finally went to the dentist, and that was a wrong decision, because now I have to have a tooth pulled on Monday. See? Don't go to the doctor/dentist; they only tell you bad news.

There is a small market outside Union Station now, and I stopped by the bakery stall and bought some raisin/walnut bread. It's ssoOOoooo good. I'm going to have to lock it up so I dont eat the entire loaf today! And it was only $3.00 - I think that's a great price. Other places would charge $5 or more for a large loaf of bread like that.

Ever Onward.

Finally Friday - 5 Days to Rolex

So, yesterday I went to the gym in the a.m. and did abou 20-25 minutes of lower body strength training; at lunch I went back down and because I wasn't too sure of my leg, I did 40 minutes on the elliptical at a low resistance. Amazing how fast one can go with little to no resistance. Today I am officially giving myself a day off. Don't want to get burned out, so a rest day is good. Tomorrow I'll probably take Romeo out for a long morning walk. It will be good for both of us and I'll get it over sooner rather than later.

Time to start making my packing list for Rolex. But, I have to go to the store and get some shorts. The ones I have kind of fit, but if I eat anything, I will be so uncomfortable in them. I prefer looser fit if I'm walking around all day at Rolex.

Tomorrow is riding lesson at 4:30 and cleaning up Bella a bit and packing up the trailer as much as I can - chairs remember chairs.

Ride times are posted: Sara: Dressage 11:58; Stadium Jumping 1:35; Cross Country Jumping 2:35. Me: Dressage 12:19; Stadium Jumping 2:00; Cross Country Jumping 3:00. There is a gap in between, but Sara goes, I go, Sara goes, I go, Sara goes, I go. Then, we are done and have to wait around for scores. Maybe ribbons????

Went out to lunch with Betty to Bravo!Bravo! Had my usual veg omelet. It is really good and somewhat good for me. Went to Dress Barn afterwards and was able to get 3 pairs of shorts and 2 blouses for my Rolex trip. This was a nice alternative to exercise today. I felt really good about my day off. Now, I don't have to worry about going to the mall tomorrow for shorts. I can spend more time working on my packing list and packing. I can, at least, pack my new shorts and shirts tomorrow. Thinking I will take one checked bag and one carry-on, which will probably be a backpack that I can carry around with me at Rolex.

Exercise Galore!

This morning I went to the gym before work. Did 5 minute warm-up on ellipitcal, then I did inside and outside thighs with ankle weights and with machine, windmills with ankle weights, some crunches with weights on tummy. Now that it's 12:30, it's time for me to go back down and do cardio. My plan is to do wight work 2 mornings a week, then cardio at lunch time. The other 3 days will be either full cardio or a combo of cardio/weights. Must do something to get this old metabolism working.

Closing date for the Legacy Stables show is today; hoping to get ride times by Thursday or earlier. Not sure why I torture myself. I did the dressage show a few weeks ago there, and didn't have any nervous problems. Already, I'm getting myself all pent up for the upcoming show. I'm always afraid I'll do poorly, then I do. Have to change that mode of thinking, that's for sure.

Not much else. Just trying to stay on track with eating, drinking water. And filing....

Still No Praise for the MARC Train

Last night Dave was coming home from Philly, but I still wanted to get on the early train so I could get to BWI Amtrak station and then go home and take Romeo out. What was I thinking? The train started out on its usual run, got past Riverdale, College Park, and Greenbelt. Just outside Muirkirk here comes the dreaded announcement, We are following a freight train and have to go slowly, if not stop at some point. WHAT? Are these people insane?

So, onward we go chugging along until we get to Savage. After that we pick up speed and I get to Dorsey when? 6:30 p.m. when the LATER train is supposed to get there! Unbelievable. I'm tired of taking the early train and getting to my destination at or later than the later-scheduled train is supposed to get there. I'm ready to retire.

If only Baltimore salaries were comparable to DC's. Alas.....not going to happen.

Went to the gym this a.m. since I went out to lunch with a friend. I decided I wanted to do the exercise that would burn the most calories, and that was running. Started out with a 2-3 minute walk, ran at a 10:40 mile, kept bumping it up until I was at a 10:10 mile and then to a 10:00 mile. I did have to walk a little bit in between, but then I bumped the speed up to a 10-minute mile speed for the duration. It was hard, granted, but I need to push myself in order to burn more calories. Hitting the 60 mark has not been kind to me. It takes longer to burn few calories, so my plan is to run faster, use heavier weights and make the most of what I'm doing. It's the only way. Otherwise, it will be downhill fast.

Work has been a big run around and put out fires all day. I'm exhausted, and I'm not sure what I've actually accomplished except annoying myself.

Tomorrow Dave and I may venture in DC for the Japanese Celebration that is happening. I think the Cherry Blossom 10-mile race is tomorrow, too. Could be too many people to even try. That's the problem with going to events that the entire world comes too. Having to fight the crowds which makes the trip less than enjoyable.

No Praise for MARC Train

So, yesterday I decided to leave early to catch an earlier (ha!) train to get home and take Romeo outside for a walk. Dave is out of town, so I wanted to get home so the poor puppy wouldn't burst! Here's the story: I leave the office, get to Union Station, the 5:16 train track is not posted; finally posted, but when we get to the train, the doors are all shut, we see no lights on in the cars. The conductors finally open the doors, still no lights. We sit and sit and sit and when the announcement is made (whatever it was), the car I'm in has no loudspeaker capability! Well, that's very smart. So, we sit some more. Finally, I see people leaving the train, but as MARC protocol usually is, the later trains (even if the earlier one is not going anywhere) do not leave until the earlier train does. Duh!!! Makes sense to me. Not.

While sitting on the 5:16, I called Sara and asked her to take Romeo out for a piddle since he's been by himself since 5:00 a.m. Hence, the reason I wanted to leave early!!!

Finally, I got off the train and asked the conduct what was going on. He told me that the Express Train at 5:51 will be leaving on time on Track 15. I'm on Track 7 - far north end. (Those of you who do ride MARC know that far north end means "South Riverdale"). I make the trek practially back into the station, walk fast (no running allowed on the platforms) to the 5:51, which is getting more crowded by the minute. The only saving grace is the 5:51 is an express and the people who get off at Riverdale, College Park and Greenbelt can't take that train.

I get on the train, and lo and behold, car 7793, which has been stiflingly hot for the past month has cool air running! I'm so surprised! I guess they finally listened to other people's emails, too. I told many people to send emails to MARC so they get the message that something is wrong. I must send a strongly worded email to MARC today about yesterday's fisaco, but I digress.

More and more people get on; the train is packed out, but we do leave somewhat on time. As we are chugging along, we get an announcement (the loudspeakers actually work on this car) that there is a switch problem at Riverdale, so we slow down to a crawl and to a stop, the conductor gets off, has to switch manually, then after we pass, switch it back or something equally ridiculous!

We crawl and crawl and crawl some more. As we pass the people at College Park, they look incredulous as we just pass them by. I'm sure that they have no idea what is happening because there is no way to find out unless you happen to have a Blackberry. Which I don't. Finally, after Greenbelt the train picks up speed; we make all the stops, which take much longer because of the large amount of people packed onto the train.

The train pulls into Dorsey at 7:00 p.m. I started my trip home at 4:45 p.m. and I still haven't made it home! I get home, take poor Romeo for a much-needed walk and make dinner for us both. Fortunaly, there was some leftover Chinese chicken and rice from the night before. I did make some eggplant and asparagus and had some sherbet for dessert. By now, it's after 8:00.

That's my wonderful trip home, once again, on the MARC Rail System.

Since I was still suffering from this cold/pollen thing, I fell asleep just as AI came on. Good thing I recorded it! Woke up at 9:30 p.m., went to the bedroom to fix my clothes and took another Benedryl. Right now, I feel ok, but I know I still have the effects of the Benedryl in my system. Once it wears off, we'll see.

Exercise: I did get on the elliptical yesterday for 30 minutes at a very light level. Better than nothing, and I hope it helped move this cold thing out of my system.

If I feel ok, I will go outside and do some running/walking before it starts to rain. Tomorrow I will have to go to the gym before work since I'm going out to lunch with a friend of mine.

Riding: Must send in my application for Legacy Stables HT on the 18th. However, we are going XC Schooling on Sunday at Loch Moy. Have printed out two sets of the documents they want, plus coggins for the horses. This training is getting expensive. Looking at it realistically, though, no training, no improvement. It's only money, right?

Knitting: For some reason these past few days, every knitting project I've touched has turned to crap. I was working on my bulky sweater, was increasing for the button band, it looked like a ruffle instead; tore it out. Started working on a really cute blue/white sweater with "dancing ladies" on it; the pattern is all screwy - will rip that out. So, OK, started working on another pair of mittens (white with the very brightly hand painted sock yarn); had to rip that out; so decided that I should make the same design that I already made (since I kind of know what I'm doing there). Success! I'm on the ribbing and so far, it's looking nice. Whew! About time, already.

Pollen is our Enemy.

Let's see.......Weekend summary.....

Saturday Dave and I met Sara and her friends to watch them rock climb. We met them in Ellicott City, then walked a short way to an area for climbing. Unfortunately, the rock face was too big for their ropes, so after deliberations, they decided to go somewhere else. Dave and I opted to go to the grocery store to stock up and get food for Easter dinner. What a thrill that was. The rest of the day was quiet.

Sunday Dave came with Sara and me to go cross country schooling at a new place. It is fairly new; the wood still has that "new" wood smell to it. The field was huge, the jumps were good (although not enough smaller jumps for beginners like me). Sara and Satchmo had a great time; Bella spent her time looking around and seeing if there was any grass she could eat. What else is new?

Sara made the announcement that since Satchmo was such a good boy, she had no excuse not to do the Legacy show on April 18. I have been looking for a place to go schooling this weekend, but it isn't looking too well. Many of the places are having shows or clinics or are too far away since Cathy has to be somewhere after our lesson. Thinking it might not work; will have a lesson at her place.

If you want to see determination, look at this picture. Never give up! Never surrender! Ok, it's not the best picture, but I certainly was not giving up.

After the schooling we went home, Sara came over later and cooked her meals - dumplings and BBQ chicken. She bribed Dave with dumplings as payment to use the grill. It worked! Promise Dave food and you are ok.

I had a half a leg of lamb, which turned out to be the best buy since it was only the three of us at dinner. We had lamb, scalloped potatoes, salad, asparagus, and apple pie for dessert. Not too much food, although I did have my share of the dumplings!

Went t the oral surgeon yesterday, and unfortunately, I have a tooth that has to come out. Bummer. Can't think about it now because I have things to do until the end of April. It will have to wait until May before I can make an appointment.

I am feeling really lousy; must be the pollen or I have a bad cold. I've never been affected like this with the pollen before. Stayed home yesterday since I had to go to the dentist, but decided to stay home, again, today to see how it goes. For someone who hardly takes time off, I think I'm due a day or two off. As a result, no exercising because just walking from the living room to the kitchen is enough to wear me out! Climbing up the stairs to the loft is like running a marathon these day!

I Could Really Be Somewhere Else Today

OK. Sunday's Cross Country Training is all set for Sera Valley. It is only about 15 minutes from Cathy's place, so we don't have far to take the ponies. This farm is new, and last week I saw all the cool looking jumps. Can't wait to go! And, being the glutton for punishment that I am, I am going to do the Horse Trials at Legacy Stables on April 18 - a show to get me in the mood for Rolex. Well, that's not really necessary, but it's a good reason to do the show. I'll take any excuse.

After we ride I'm putting a leg of lamb in the oven for our Easter dinner later on. The plan is lamb, roasted potatoes, a veg and apple pie for dessert. That's it. No extravagant dishes that are calorie-laden!

I decided that I needed to take a break from exercising today. My knees hurt, my leg hurts and I'm just really tired. Think my body needs a break. Tomorrow, back in the gym!

Will This Week Ever End?

Saturday I'm going to a dressage show at Legacy Stables. At first another rider from the barn was going with me. She's a senior in high school, but was apparently goofing off too much this week, so she's not going with me. Another solo trip to a show. Rats! That also means I have to pay for trailering costs/coaching fee by myself. This is going to be an expensive show. I better get a ribbon - at this rate - any color will do!

The firm has an unofficial book club which is meeting today at noon. I forgot about it and did not go to the gym this morning. I was going to bit the bullet and let it be a rest day. Having said that, I realized I'm having pizza for dinner, so the gym it is! I can't eliminate the gym when I'm having Dave's Famous Pizza for dinner.

My menu for lunch/snacks: veg. chili, green peppers, tomatoes, orange, activia with wheat germ, banana (maybe) and popcorn (maybe). Dinner: Pizza!

I'm still working on my self-evaluation. It is a royal pain in the rear end, and what will it do for us? The firm is cutting back on everything, except partner bonuses, so no one is expecting any type of raises this year. Blah!

Official Countdown to Rolex: 27 days.

Self-Evaluation??? This is nuts.

On the work side of things: Once a year we are compelled to do a self-evaluation, then our bosses get to read it and tell us we don't actually walk on water! I despise doing these things, and I, basically, repeat the same crap I said last year. How does one expand on printing, stapling, hole punching and filing? There has to be a way to make this all sound very executive-like and nobody else in the world could possibly do this job. Granted, there is a bit more to the job, but......

On the exercise side of things I 'm still working on the elliptical waiting for my leg to be well enough to run. I might be doing a 5K on April 11, so I'm not doing any running until I know if I will actually be doing this.

On the knitting side of things, I re-started the sweater because it just didn't look big enough around the armholes. I'm at the armholes and still it looks small; could be the stitch holders since they don't stretch with the yarn. Anyway, I'm forging ahead with it. Needles: Size 15; Yarn: Crystal Palace, Kaya, a bulky yarn. Should go fast (at least I'm hoping so).

No other side of things to talk about right now.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday - The first day of spring and the temperature was wonderfully warm! Sara and I met (with Romeo) and did our 1 1/2 hour walk around the lake two times for 4.8 miles. Lots of people out walking and running with dogs and kids. Where were these people when Sara and I were out there in 17-degree weather and sliding down icy paths? Hmmmm?

We did a moderate walk, and was just enough to get the juices flowing. Romeo was mostly a good boy although he did snip at a dog. We're not sure, though, who instigated the entire event. Romeo or the other dog. Anyway, Romeo was a very tired boy when we got him home.

I had gone onto the deck in the early morning (7:30 or so) and it was really cold! I had a sweater and a jacket on. I guess living in the hills makes a difference in the temperature. Centennial Park's temperature at 9:30 was perfect.

We spent the day lounging and sitting on the deck enjoying the nice weather. Dave had to take some pictures of a business sign after dark and the sign with lit up. Don't know why, but the company wanted pictures of the sign lit up. We went to Bethesda, took the pictures, couldn't find the place that we wanted to eat; drove in circles, then went to Tysons Corner to take a picture of the sign there. We drove in circles trying to find that one, too. After Dave took the pictures it was 9:45! Still no dinner. We saw a Chili's sign, went in there and had a very disappointing meal - at least mine was. It was supposed to be a quaesadilla with chicken; Ugh!

Sunday was also very nice. Sara and I had a riding lesson. Bella was in a good mood, a very good mood, which makes it a good lesson for me. Sara and Satchmo had a good time and Satchmo even took the first jump instead of having to examine it first! A plus! Maybe he's realizing the jump won't all of a sudden spring upwards into his face! Stupid horse. We are planning a cross country training trip on April 4, which is Easter Sunday, but what better way to spend the day than riding?

After the lesson Dave and I went to Savage Mill to meet Lea and go to a "yarn thing" there. It was a room that had yarn vendors from local farms, etc. We had brunch first, and that was also a really bad meal. I ordered an omelette with crab, cheese and mushrooms. They didn't have mushrooms, so I asked for broccoli. Intead of florets, there were 3 giant stalks of broccoli in the egg. Sheesh! Not only that, the egg was lukewarm when it got to the table. I had never eaten there before, and I was very anxious to have a meal there. Not ever again!

Even the yarn displays were somewhat disappointing. I was ready to purchase yarn, but there wasn't the type I was looking for. Most of the yarn was sock yarn, hand painted, so hardly any solid colors. I did splurge and buy two skeins of alpaca - a beautiful creamy buttery yellow and a light grey for - you guessed it- a pair of mittens. They will be the most expensive and the warmest mittens I ever owned.

Food wise - Not the best choices I could have made this weekend, but sometimes it just works out like that. Redeeming myself by packing much healthier foods than I had yesterday.

I was making great headway on my sweater that I started, looked at it and (it is difficult to tell on the needles) it looked too small. I ripped it out and now I'm going to do the next higher number of increases instead of what I was doing. Now, I'm concerned if I'll have enough yarn. Maybe I should buy a few more skeins - "just in case." Ha ha.

Finally Friday! It's About Time!

When I got up this morning, I was so relieved that it WAS finally and absolutely Friday. Of course, it's not over, yet, because I'm at work and have to struggle through the day. Ugh!

On the exercise side, I am still working with an injured leg. Yesterday I did some stretches hoping it would help me. Not sure if it has because my leg still hurts when I stand up - that's when it hurts the most, but after I get moving, it's not too bad, not perfect, but not too bad. I would like to go outside, but I think I will stay in and hop on the elliptical since it is not so hard on my leg as running - even walking. I need those cardio calories.

We are going to have a great 70-degree Saturday - the first day of spring. I've been counting down since 45 days ago, and I thought it would never get here. Sunday is a riding lesson, then off to Savage Mill for a Yarn Experience or whatever it's called. Going to meet Lea and Betty there; Dave is coming with me so he can get out of the house, we'll all have lunch; Dave will walk around, and the three of us will talk/walk yarn for a few hours. I'm not even going to attempt to say I will exercise will power and not buy anything! It's just not worth it! I do have a sweater I want to make, but have been unable to find the right yarn for it.

I'm just about finished the tan/chocolate mittens. Just a few more rows on the thumb and I'm done. Then, the two have to be blocked so the stitches even out and look really smooth. One more pair of mittens to make with yarn I already have, thank you very much! It is a white yarn and a sock multi-colored yarn, which I'm hoping will look very striking. Better to knit them now, then I can give them away at Christmas time for gifts. Betty hinted that the tan mittens would really match her new camel colored coat. I'll save those for her and give them to her at Christmas. Her birthday is in January, so Christmas is the first occasion for me to give them to her.

Next countdown - Rolex! Only 33 days. April 21 flying off to Louisville, KY, getting in the van with Aileen, Cassidy and Sara and driving to Lexington, KY. I put a countdown tracker on my page; it actually works. Yesterday, it said 1 month, 3 days, now it says 1 month, 2 days. Imagine that!

It's Thursday, But Should Be Friday

It's quite interesting how I get to Thursday and feel as if the work week is over! It's been happening for many years; maybe, I'm a 4-day work week person. :)

There were many cupcakes left over from the Irish Bash yesterday that I took two home for Dave. It was a gutsy thing to do as they both were staring me down all night. I needed to use the small containers I took them home in, so I did taste the frosting on one - hey! it stuck to the lid of the container! What's a girl to do? In place of cupcakes are applesauce and cottage cheese. Better choices for the day. I packed 1 cup of vegetarian chili, 7 triscuits, 1 orange, and popcorn. On the way to work I stopped at Au Bon Pain and they had my favorite soup, Mushroom Bisque. I had to buy some, so I will eat that today and save the chili for tomorrow. Both have the same WW points value, so not a big deal.

My friend, Betty, is having work done on her house. She got a call yesterday afternoon that the contractors opened the door and one of her cats ran out! So far, the cat has not bee found. Unfortunately, the cat is an indoor cat and is probably scared to its last wits. And, she doesn't have claws in her front paws. (Another subject altogether, but not now.)

Exercise for the day will be the ellipitcal and some strength training. Must give my leg some rest. This is really annoying me, but what can you do? I guess, take it easy and let it heal.
